Rome Fiumicino to City Centre: By Bus

Getting the bus is the best way to reach Rome City Centre from Fiumicino airport in my opinion. It has the best balance of time vs money. As it is not too much longer than a train or taxi but is significantly cheaper.

When I flew from Dublin to Rome, this is how I got to the city.

It costs approximately €6 and the bus journey lasts roughly 50 minutes. The buses are comfortable, and modern and leave on time. I booked through GetYourGuide and they use a company called Terravision which is extremely reliable. It takes you to Roma Termini.

As it’s the cheapest, it’s the best option if you are visiting Rome on a budget. You can also book a return bus from Roma Termini, the main bus stop in the centre of Rome, to Fiumicino through GetYourGuide which is an added bonus.

If you are choosing to rent a car in Rome, you can pick up your car at the airport and drive yourself to the centre of Rome. The drive will take approximately 35 minutes.

Be aware of the driving conditions in Rome, drivers are often impatient and drive in a way I can only describe as hectic. Especially mopeds and motorbikes.

Rome Fiumicino to City Centre: By Taxi

Getting a taxi from Rome Fiumicino to Rome’s city centre is another option, however, I would not recommend it.

It costs €48 as a flat fare, and it takes about 35-40 minutes. Rome isn’t the most expensive place I’ve ever been, but the taxis are expensive.

When in Rome, be careful that you only get into officially licensed taxis as these are regulated and must follow strict regulations in regard to their pricing and meters.

Also, tipping in Rome is not expected, but you can round it up to €50 if you wish.

There are taxi bays at the airport and throughout Rome, so you won’t have any issues finding a taxi. You can find out more about taxis in Rome by clicking here.

But they are pretty expensive. It’s worth noting though that despite the taxis’ bad reputation, Rome is a safe city in my opinion.

Rome Fiumicino to City Centre: By Private Transfer

Private transfer may be the best option for you if you are a family, have a lot of luggage or if you are a friend group who can split the cost.

It’s also the most VIP way of reaching the centre of Rome. Your driver will wait for you in the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name on it. Not to mention that they can take you directly to your accommodation.

It costs €70 but you can have up to 8 people. So if you are a large group, it could work out cheaper than the train. Similar to taxi and driving, it will take between 35-45 minutes, or longer, depending on where your accommodation is.
